The Puente Romano Tennis Club in Marbella will host the Davis Cup between Spain and Denmark in September. Transforming Marbella Into a Tennis Capital. Hosting the Davis Cup is not just about the matches on court, it is a logistical and cultural operation that transforms the city. Temporary grandstands will be built to increase spectator capacity, specialised media facilities will be installed, and an expanded hospitality zone will welcome visitors with food, beverages, and merchandise. The city council is coordinating closely with local law enforcement, transport providers, and the hotel sector to ensure a seamless experience for fans. Early estimates suggest the economic impact could exceed two million euros, benefiting hotels, restaurants, and local businesses while boosting Marbella’s international visibility

The 2025 Davis Cup format makes September a decisive month: winning this weekend means your country joins hosts Italy in the Final 8 (November 18-23, Bologna Fiere); losing means being eliminated from the title race.

Carlos AlcarazAlejandro DavidovichPedro Martínez Portero and Marcel Granollers will make up the MAPFRE Spanish National Tennis Team that will face Denmark in the second round of the 2025 Davis Cup Qualifiers, to be held on the weekend of September 13 and 14 at the Puente Romano Tennis Club in Marbella.

Spain will once again play a Davis Cup tie on clay after three years without stepping on its favorite surface. “It’s lucky that we can play at home, in Marbella, on clay, where Spanish players perform so well. Obviously, Rune also performs very well on clay, but the support of the public is fundamental, and that, ultimately, benefits us.”

Team Spain: A Star-Studded Clay-Court Squad

Captain David Ferrer has called up Carlos Alcaraz, Malaga native Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Pedro Martínez, and doubles specialist Marcel Granollers for Marbella. Ferrer has also added Olympic gold medalist Marc López to the coaching staff. A balanced team built for clay, with local support assured for Davidovich.

Team Denmark: Led by Holger Rune and captained by Frederik Løchte Nielsen

Denmark arrives in a strong position thanks to top-10 star Holger Rune and emerging number 2 Elmer Møller, who were key figures in the 3–2 comeback against Serbia in February. Non-playing captain Frederik Løchte Nielsen (Wimbledon doubles champion) is once again leading the team; Johannes Ingildsen and August Holmgren have been regulars in recent selections. Denmark promises to be a force to be reckoned with in both singles and doubles.

Since its opening in 1979, Puente Romano’s center court has hosted legends and major events, including Davis Cup qualifiers (such as Spain’s victory over Great Britain in 2018) and the Andalucía Tennis Experience. The venue combines resort comfort with a long tennis tradition, one of the reasons why Spain returns here for its most important matches.

One of the unique aspects of attending a Davis Cup tie in Marbella is the opportunity to combine world-class sport with a Mediterranean holiday. Between matches, spectators can enjoy the city’s famous beaches, explore the atmospheric streets of the Old Town, or indulge in fine dining at some of Spain’s most celebrated restaurants. The Puente Romano Beach Resort itself is a destination worth exploring, offering everything from award-winning gastronomy to wellness retreats and beach clubs. This combination of competitive intensity and leisure makes the Davis Cup in Marbella a truly distinctive sporting experience.
