Marbella officially welcomed the more than 6,300 triathletes participating in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship on November 8th and 9th with the Parade of Nations. The event began in Antonio Banderas Square and culminated on Puerto Banús beach, featuring athletes from 143 countries. Mayor Ángeles Muñoz attended the event and emphasized that “it is a true honor for our city to be the epicenter of such a special event for international sport.” She added that “this championship not only fills us with pride, but also reaffirms Marbella’s position as a host of major international events and a leading global destination.”

Muñoz, who noted that the event will generate a direct economic impact of €60 million for the city and 270,000 overnight stays, thanked the organizers for their confidence in the municipality as host of the competition and highlighted the city’s capacity to host large-scale events. “We have high-quality infrastructure, a privileged natural environment, and excellent hotels, which make each competition a unique experience for the participants,” he emphasized.

During his speech, Muñoz also stated that “it is truly special for us to welcome more than 6,000 athletes, along with their friends and families,” and added that “during these days, Marbella will undoubtedly be the Ironman city.” “I want to tell them to fall in love with the city, to enjoy it, and I hope they have a fantastic result, but also not to miss our restaurants and our heritage,” stressed the mayor, who hoped that “they feel at home, because our town and Ironman form a combination that will undoubtedly be repeated many times.”

The Ironman World Championship in Marbella takes place this Saturday, November 8th, and Sunday, November 9th. This event consists of swimming, cycling, and running. Due to the event, which will extend to other municipalities on the Costa del Sol, such as Ojén, Monda, Coín, and Cártama, there will be road closures on the day of the race.

The Ironman begins with the swimming race, which will take place on Puerto Banús beach and is approximately 2 kilometers long.

The cycling race is 90 kilometers long with 1,785 meters of elevation gain, passing through the municipalities of Ojén, Monda, Coín, and Cártama. And the last race, a 21.1-kilometer course, will consist of two laps between Puerto Banús and Marbella, running parallel to the sea.
