The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, highlights, in any case, that the data reflects “the gradual recovery of international tourism and shows that Spain has managed to be perceived as a safe destination by millions of travelers.”
In his opinion, the confidence of international tourists is due to the “effective” advance of the vaccination process in Spain, which places the country at the head of world powers, together with the leadership shown by the Spanish tourism sector in the development and deployment of strict security protocols.

874,189 tourists came from France who visited Spain in July, 19.9% of the total, and 46.6% more than a year earlier, making the neighboring country the leading source of international tourists.
Germany and the United Kingdom were the next countries with the most tourists in Spain at the start of the summer: 707,331 German travelers, 64.5% more, and 555,183 British, 46.5% more.

The third main destination region by number of tourists was the Valencian Community, with 607,214 and an annual increase of 58.5%, and in this case France was also the main country of origin (with 167,547 visitors), followed by the United Kingdom ( with 74,046).
In fourth place is Andalusia, with 554,924 foreign visitors, 54.3% more; then the Canary Islands, with 414,244 tourists, 92.1% more, and the Community of Madrid, with 219,035, in this case 187.2% more than a year earlier.
Average expenditure of 1,190 euros
In addition, the INE has published the tourist expenditure survey, which shows that foreign visitors spent a total of 5,231 million euros in July, compared to 2,458 million a year before or 11,942 million in the same month of 2019.
This translates into an average expenditure per tourist of 1,190 euros, 19.3% more than in July 2020; the average daily expenditure is 144 euros, 16% more.

In the accumulated year, the total expenditure of foreign visitors is 10,996 million, 23.2% less than the previous year and a reduction of almost 80% compared to July 2019.
Hoteliers estimate occupancy on the Costa del Sol in July at 40’44%
